Introducing Stellest® Lenses

When a child’s vision starts changing quickly, it can affect everything. If your child has myopia (nearsightedness), you may feel like you’re constantly updating prescriptions with no clear long-term plan.

At Family Eyecare of Orange, we’re proud to offer an advanced option for children with progressing myopia: Essilor Stellest® lenses. These innovative glasses lenses are designed not only to help kids see clearly, but also to slow the progression of myopia as they grow.

If you’re exploring solutions beyond standard glasses, visit our Myopia Management.

What are Stellest lenses?

Stellest lenses are the first spectacle lens to receive FDA market authorization for helping slow myopia progression in children while still correcting everyday vision.

Your child gets the clarity they need now, with technology designed to help protect their vision for the future.

Benefits of Stellest lenses

Stellest lenses use a state-of-the-art design called Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target (H.A.L.T.) technology. The lenses contain 1,021 invisible lenslets that work together to create myopic defocus, a signal that can help slow the eye’s elongation (a key driver of myopia progression).

Studies have found that Stellest lenses can slow the progression of myopia by an average of 71% compared to single-vision lenses.¹

With consistent wear, Stellest lenses can:

  • Correct your child’s vision for everyday life
  • Help slow future prescription changes
  • Offer a non-contact-lens option for families who prefer glasses

For best results, experts recommend wearing Stellest lenses 10 hours per day, at least 6 days per week.

Who are the best candidates for Stellest® lenses?

For years, childhood myopia options were limited, especially for younger kids. Many children aren’t ready for contacts, and some families want an approach that’s simple, comfortable, and easy to stick with.

Stellest spectacle lenses are generally advised for children:

  • Ages 6–12
  • With myopia with or without astigmatism
  • Who need a glasses-based solution to help manage progression

Because Stellest lenses fit into regular frames, they’re often a practical option for kids who aren’t candidates for ortho-k or multifocal contacts, or for families who want to start with a glasses-first approach.

If your child is experiencing the onset or progression of myopia, we can help determine whether Stellest lenses are a good fit.

Help your child see clearly

If you think Stellest® lenses may be right for your child, we’d love to help. The first step is a comprehensive pediatric visit so we can evaluate your child’s vision, prescription history, and myopia progression risk.

Stellest® lens FAQs

How long does treatment last?

Stellest® lenses are designed to slow myopia progression during the years when a child’s prescription commonly changes the most. As with any glasses, your child’s prescription may still change over time. We’ll monitor your child’s progress at follow-up visits and recommend updates as needed.

Are the lenses covered by insurance?

Because Stellest® lenses are relatively new, coverage varies by plan and may not be included under all vision benefits. If coverage is a concern, we recommend checking with your provider. Our team can also walk you through options and help you find a plan that fits your family.

Will my child need another set of glasses?

Stellest lenses are most effective when worn 10 hours per day, 6 days per week, but they’re also safe and comfortable for normal daily wear. For most children, one pair of Stellest glasses can meet everyday vision needs.

What if the lenses don’t work for my child?

Some children experience a short adjustment period when first wearing Stellest lenses, often less than a week. If adaptation takes longer, or your child reports discomfort or unusual vision, we’ll schedule a follow-up visit to troubleshoot fit, prescription, and visual comfort and discuss next steps.
